Fall Review
Our 2007-08 roster has added 21 new recruits. The following players are expected to help us in a big way this spring.
Freshman
Mark Picca- lhp from Nolan Catholic HS - had a tremendous fall. Showed the ability to throw 3 pitches for a strike. Should be a major contributor this spring!
Adam Boydston- lhp from Lake Dallas - crafty lhp that should eat up innings for us as a freshman. Really knows how to pitch!
Michael Choice- of/2b from Timberview HS- tremendous athlete that can really hit. Should make a great impact in the lineup right away. Was a catcher in HS so is still learning to play the OF.
Jordan Vaughn- 1b- from Rampart HS in Colo. Springs- Jordan made great strides in the fall season. Should really fill out later on in his career. Very good athlete for a 1st baseman.
Marcus Limon- rhp/ss- from Estacado HS in Lubbock. Tremendous arm strength on the mound with an above average slider. Also, plays SS with a plus bat. Really handled doing both really well this fall. Right now he is going to continue to do both for us.
Transfers
Blake Holt- of- from Temple JC. Blake has been drafted twice by the Atlanta Braves. Is a tremendous defensive outfielder with very good pop in his bat from the right side. Also has very good work ethic and should jump in right away and give us help in OF.
Andrew Kainer- of - from Angelina JC. Andrew is a very physical athlete that showed very good power at the plate in the fall. Should provide a much needed middle of the order bat for us.
Preston McCoy- of - from Hill JC. Preston brings speed from the left side of the plate. Really improved at the plate as the fall went along. Could possibly hit in 1 or 2 hole if he keeps improving. Very good runner!
Ryan Davis- 3b/1b- from Eastern Oklahoma JC. Ryan brings us a physical bat and a lot of versatility defensively. He has the ability to play a couple of spots which is a big plus to us in the spring.
Evan Raley-3b- from Central Arizona JC. Evan is a very good 3b with ability to hit. He will be counted on to be a good player for us this spring. Has a good approach to the game!
Logan Forest-1b/of- from Midland JC. Logan gives us a big left handed bat. He had a good fall both at the plate and defensively at 1b. With some strength training in off-season should be able to be a doubles plus hitter for us.
Chad Price- c- from Eastern Oklahoma JC. Chad is an above average athlete for a catcher. He also, brings us a very good defensive catcher with the ability to lead a pitching staff. We are really counting on him to be one of our leaders.
Steffan Guest-c- from McClennan JC. Steffan was one of our top power hitters during the fall season. He showed the ability to not only hit for power but for average as well. He should be able to bring us some physicality to our batting order.
Jay Pitschka-ss- from Butler County CC. Jay comes to us with the reputation as an above average defensive SS. He also handles the bat well and has a very good knowledge of the short game at the plate. A lot of our teams success depends on how good we are up the middle which places a lot of emphasis on our shortstop position.
Justin McPherson- 2b/ss- from Cisco JC. Justin had a very good fall, especially with the glove. Should be a very good player at this level because he will do whatever it takes to be a good baseball player. He is one our most consistent position players we have.
Ryan Robinson- LHP transfer from Howard Junior College that has a lot of experience. As the fall went a long his ability and feel to pitch really showed, he ended the fall pitching very well. Will help us in multiple roles this spring.
Jeff Edlefsen- LHP transfer from Barton County Junior College that also has a lot of experience pitching at the college level. Jeff had a good fall throwing a lot of strikes with three pitches. We see him helping our staff, especially out of the bullpen.
Rett Varner- a RHP transfer from BYU after redshirting. Rett has very good arm strength and is learning how to pitch. We feel that as he will contribute in a couple of different roles for us, as a coaching staff we are excited to follow his development as a pitcher.
Matt Dunn- a RHP that transferred from Temple Junior College, that has pitched in a lot of big games so far in his college career. Matt showed the ability to throw three pitches for strikes along with very good feel for his fastball and changeup. With Matt's experience and feel to pitch we will be counting on him to pitch a lot for us.
Brian Watson- a LHP that transferred from Paris Junior College. Brian is a strike thrower, that really handled left- handed hitters this fall. Brian has a plus feel to pitch and will only continue to get better. He should help add depth to our pitching staff.
Drew Clementz- RHP that transferred from Bethel College. Drew has had two very successful years pitching in college baseball. He depends on pitch selection and location and does both of them well. He will continue making strides and fill multiple roles for us in the spring
